On May 23, 2018, only one year before the 2019 IPL tournament, AB de Villiers announced a piece of shocking news regarding his retirement from international cricket. He said that after 114 test matches, 228 ODIs and 78 T20 Internationals it was time for others to take over. He quotes during his sign-off from international cricket; “I have had my turn, and to be honest, I am tired.”

Virat Kohli, RCB’s captain, appreciated De Villiers efforts during the tournament and backed him by saying that he cannot take the responsibility every time. There is always too much stress on just Ab de Villiers” said, Virat Kholi. He shared his experience with the world in which he said; “I thought we were in a good position at one stage. We were 75 for 1, the way we were we all got out after that wasn’t ideal. A guy like AB, who has the capability to hit fours and sixes, was knocking it around. We needed smarter decision-making there and guys were just not up to the mark and that is disappointing to see. It should not have been repeated by five, six guys in a row. One or two guys are okay, but the others should have applied themselves and that wasn’t the case tonight,”.

Although it is confirmed that Ab de Villiers will not play for South Africa, it was yet to be confirmed whether he will play IPL or not? In his retirement message, De Villiers said that he will be playing for The Titans, his domestic team, and did not declare anything about his IPL future, He says that he has no plans to play overseas, in fact, he hopes that he can continue to play for the Titans in domestic cricket. He will continue to support Faf du Plessis and the Proteas.

As he mentioned that he will not play overseas; It is possible that he might not participate in England as a Kolpak player. After the news reports regarding Ashish Nehra and Gary Kirsten being selected to be in the RCB coaching team for IPL 2019, there was another exciting news for the RCB fans. It was declared by AB de Villiers that he will be a part of RCB in the next season of IPL.

It was doubtful of whether AB would take part after his international retirement; But the RCB Chairman Sanjeev Churiwala confirmed that he will be playing for the franchise in the upcoming season of IPL in the same way he has been playing since 2011.

AB de Villiers in the past has confirmed that he will continue to play in the IPL for a few more years, and this was great news for the RCB fans who are very much excited to watch AB play on the field again.

Although the former South African captain started off his IPL journey with Delhi Daredevils, it is with the Royal Challengers Bangalore that he has earned a status of being one of the most explosive batsmen in the world.

The right-handed batsman was part of RCB team in IPL 2018. He has been playing for the same franchise since 2011. Previous he was the part of Delhi Daredevils but was then bought by RCB for $1.1 million later ahead of IPL 2011. He was then retained by the franchise ahead of IPL 2014 and 2018 auction. He is one of the consistent performers of his team and the news of him confirming his participation in next season of will be a big relief for the Virat Kohli and his team.
