IPL has been the greatest revelation to the game of cricket. It provided the right platform and exposure with financial options to young budding cricketers across the globe. Many made their marks in IPL which led to having a much-needed career break in their international cricket. IPL has been reaching several heights over the years and it has come a long way since its inception in 2008. Even it led to the organization of other franchise-based cricket tournaments like big bash league and CPL t20. Delhi has been one of the formidable team since the inaugural event in 2008.

It has seen many ups and downs over the years and now it has changed its name from Delhi Daredevils to Delhi capitals. Delhi is known for changing their team for the season to season and they yet find the right team balance which makes them as one of the inconsistent teams in the tournament.  Apart from this team has produced so many interesting matches over the years. One of the swashbuckling openers in the history of the game, be on a test, one-dayers or T20 format Virender Sehwag needs no introduction to the game of cricket. Fearsome opener known for the big stroke-making ability was part of the Delhi Daredevils outfit right from the inaugural edition to 2013 edition. He has been the captain and the face of the team then. He has been their pillar of strength and produced so many outstanding matches right from the tournament.

He has been their highest run scorer till date with 2382 runs in 85 innings at an average of just under 30 with the remarkable strike rate of 158.27. His IPL career best came when he is part of Delhi team as he went on to score the match-winning knock of 119 against Mumbai Indians in 2011.  After that, he has moved to Kings XI Punjab and has been the part of their coaching side for a season also.

David Warner

Another Aussie who made the most of the IPL for his career development after Shane Watson, David Warner was initially part of the Delhi Daredevils between 2009 and 2013. Though he does not produce many watch winning knocks compared to his consistent performance with sun risers Hyderabad David Warner still produced some memorable innings for Delhi outfit during his stint. He also scored a century for them which came against Kings XI Punjab in 2011.

He is one of the majestic players in all formats of the game and a mainstay of Australian batting unit. During his brief stint with Delhi team, he has scored 1456 runs in 56 innings at an average of 28.54. He has also scored a lone century for them which was his first century in t20 format.  With the phenomenal strike rate of 133 at an average of 29 Delhi made the best mistake by letting him go. Sunrisers Hyderabad capitalized him and made him the captain of the side where is playing a pivotal role in their success in recent years.

Rishabh Pant

Rishabh pant is an exciting talent, who is making the mark in the international arena these days. He has been one of the few players whom Delhi is looking to nurture and invest for future goals. Courageous and talented Delhi lad is known for his exploits in Ranji trophy and U-19 levels didn’t lead the team management down. So far he has scored around 1248 runs with the whopping strike rate of 162 and with the best average of 35.

He still has to go long way both in international level and in IPL but what he has achieved till now is a remarkable achievement. Highly talented kid and a courageous batsman who has got the license to score hit right up in the air will be going to be future of Delhi team if they utilize his talent properly. Highly regarded as best exploiting batsmen who are also a wicketkeeper this is an added advantage. Sure he will make deep in roots and will make his presence count in future editions of the IPL and international cricket.

Shreyas Iyer

For one thing, we need to celebrate the Delhi team for their continuous effort to find and nurture young domestic talents. Shreyas Iyer is the best example for this as a man from U-19 world cup Shreyas Iyer has come a long way since then. He has been the regular member of Mumbai Ranji trophy team and has been the captain of Delhi IPL team for a while. His strong performance in domestic and IPL level earned him India call-up in 2016. He did his best in international level but due to lack of options in the middle order, he could not get the right opportunities now.

But for sure he is going to be a regular member of the Indian team in near future. One of the talented batsmen and a great fielder Shreyas Iyer is a special kid. His ability to play big shots and lofted cover drives and his running between the wickets made him very special. So far he has scored 1218 runs for Delhi in IPL with the strike rate of around 130. Sure he is going to be future of both Indian teams and Delhi Daredevils team.

Gautam Gambhir

Everyone will be surprised by this name but yes Gautham Gambhir finds a name in this listed because of his two indifferent stints with the team. Earlier he was the part of Delhi Daredevils team from 2008 to 2010.  He had a controversial stint during the last edition which led to his exit in the middle of the tournament. One of the versatile batsmen the game has ever produced Gautham Gambhir has scored 1200 runs in 48 innings with the strike rate of 120 and an average of around 27. He has moved to Kolkata Knight Riders in 2017 and made a deep in roots there but eventually hung up his boots from all formats of cricket in 2018.
