IPL is always an aim for the entertainment. Nobody can match the craze of IPL with any other tournament. Best thing about IPL is, even the auction happens months before the tournament gets a huge hype among the fans. It is that eager to see which players are going to gets selected in the tournament to play for their teams. The love the fans show towards team is something very special and adorable. It is the fans that can make IPL electric than the fours and sixes scored by the players. In today’s column let us look at the other side of the IPL which is darker. We will look at worst buys of the IPL so far.
#8 Andrew Flintoff
It was a much excited pick into Chennai Super Kings in 2009 once the auction was over. Everybody was excited that it will add massive weight to the squad of Chennai Super Kings. But the later story was entirely different. He played only few games and failed high time and returned to attend his International assignments. It was a disappointment filled failure for all the cricket fans as he was one of the greatest all rounders in the world during his time.
#7 Jaydev Unadkat
He was bought for 11 crores by Rajasthan Royals and was a terrible failure as he was not among top and picked up wickets hardly. For the bowler who bowls four overs , the price they paid were not suitable. They could have gone for more all rounders and batsman for the kind of money. It is not that Unadkat is not capable of bowling well or taking wickets. But according to the format, the fact a bowler can bowl only four overs make it a wrong choice.
#6 Ben Stokes
The fantastic left hand batsman is one of the greatest all rounder the English cricket has ever produced. He is also a very good bowler and was very successful for England which fetched him a 13 crores contract. He was picked up by Rajasthan Royals in 2018 and was a terrible failure that he could not perform to his potential in at least one match. This was a huge disappointment among the fans and Rajasthan Royals team. Everyone will be hoping for him to perform to his potential which will give the team a royal entry into the final.
#5 Kevin Pietersen
This English man would have performed well and scored IPL hundred while he played for Delhi Daredevils, but he is sure carries an average scorecard for the team royal challengers Bangalore. He did not score well for the side which had contracted him for the sum of 7 crores. Everyone expected KP will be the man who will take team to the highest level, but he failed hard time. RCB managed to reach the final of the tournament, but the disappointing performance from KP has been noted by the fans. He later picked up by DD and performed to his potential.
#4 Varun Aaron
He is a very talented fast bowler, but he is one of the players who gave lots of disasters spells in IPL. Too much of concentration in pace and letting go off the line and length has cost him the reputation for the fast bowler in the IPL. This does not go well with franchise and nowadays he is not getting picked in auction and currently he does not have an IPL contract. We hope in future he gets a contract and come up with good spells.
#3 Ashok Dinda
His poor death overs bowling have led his teams to defeat from winning positions. He bowled most number of poor spells in the history of IPL. He leaked too many runs which cost his teams the matches. He is very capable of becoming a top fast bowler but he has not used his ability to the maximum which resulted in a huge failure. For him also, too much of concentration in pace and letting go off the line and length has cost him the reputation for the fast bowler in the IPL.
#2 Tillakaratne Dilshan
Dilshan was a successful player for Delhi daredevils but failed terribly for RCB. The swashbuckling opener was done with his form when made his Debut for RCB. Many expected him to form a dangerous opening pair with Gayle but he did not perform to his potential.
#1 Yuvraj Singh
He is one of the all time great left-hand batsmen in limited overs cricket. He is the man who led India to the world cup win. When he was picked up by Delhi Daredevils for 16 crores which is huge and the highest bid in the history till now, he failed horribly scoring just 2 fifties in 16 games. This led him to his dropping from IPL sides and now he is ready to pad up for Mumbai Indians. He is the man who threatened all bowlers and was a fearless hitter in the world. But the time will change everything like it changed the form of Yuvraj Singh. His form dropped and he became a player who has horrible records in the IPL now.
IPL is something which fetches high money for the players. It is said that, it all takes to play three IPL seasons to finish living a lifetime. Each auction gives each player a jackpot and every season eventually has a costliest player. The player gets his price when he is in prime and making the best use of the form is what important in the career of a player. Teams pick players by their records and also sometimes by the ability to turn the game even though the player is not bright in record. Sometimes, expectation goes opposite when it is not the right time for players to perform. Despite this, life goes on and the players come out with best in the given opportunity.
